Sterotyping?

Stereotyping is a popular belief about specific types of individuals. We all stereotype whether we may mean to or not it’s just a natural instinct. I wonder to myself why do I stereotype, How did I learn to stereotype, and I don’t want people to stereotype me. I usually tend to draw conclusions about other people based on who they surround themselves with, what they dress like, what there background might be, and what interests them. I’m going to put some images down below and tell you how I would stereotype them...

If I saw this guy I would assume that he is rather smart, definitely Asian, nerdy, and probably a college kid, he probably attends a huge university and has strict parents.

Now we all know her, Its Friday, Friday, Gotta get down on Friday... If I were to stereotype her I would say a young teenage girl, with parents who are probably living through their daughter. She is probably pretty popular I would assume and dresses fairly nice and lives in a suburb home.

And This Guy.. He loves the outdoors, probably in his mid to late 20's, he probably does a lot of outdoors things to try and "find himself". He loves his dog; he probably has the whole Frat Boy/ Outdoorsmen look going for him I presume. I would also assume that he is single.

See steortyping is so easy. Now Im not sure if any of my ideas on these people are right to any degree but I'd presume that they are probably close.

Digital Native?

While I was preparing to write this blog, I looked over to my left and I saw my cousin who is 3 years old playing with an IPHONE like it is his own. It blew my mind watching him play all these games and how he was just operating the phone. My mind is constantly trying to figure out why kids don’t play outside anymore because that’s not cool, and why they just stay on the computer and watch TV and just waste away the day.  When I was little I remember I would hurry and try and do all my homework on the bus so that when I got home I could go and play outside with all my friends until the streets lights came on.

Digital Natives are anyone born from the 1980’s till now.  I however don’t think that you can only be a Digital Native if you are born within this time period. Being a Digital Native just means you have an understanding for the technology and that you use it daily. I believe anyone can be a digital native as long they are willing to become one. Most people that are older probably in there 50’s or 60’s  don’t want anything to do with technology because it always seen in a negative light but I believe if you bring some positivity to  it they will be more than willing to learn about it. I think also we have to show them there is a need for it because most of them don’t think there is a need for it at all. As for the younger children I think we need to make sure that all this technology is put in a positive light and not a negative light. I think also that children need the technology because it can definitely increase their knowledge; But I think that with this said we cannot let our kids get lazy they need to be just as into technology as they are with playing outside and being active.

So with all of this said I believe that anyone can be a Digital Native just with the right skills and knowledge they will be right there with the best of them.

What is Media Literacy?

Media literacy to me is what consumes everyday life. It is all around us! Media Literacy is enhancing and increasing the world at such a rapid place. Media Literacy has grown so much since I have grown up. I remember when I was a child growing up and watching VCR's and now my younger sister is watching DVD's and shows on the internet.  It’s amazing how much media literacy has increased since I have been alive from big box T.V’s to Flat Screen 3.D T.V’s, from C.D’s to IPOD’s, from big bulky cell phones to IPHONES and slender phones that barely way an ounce. All these process blow my mind when I sit down and observe all of this. Is all of this Media Literacy? Can Media Literacy get more advanced? How are my kids going to grow up? All these questions go through my head every day when I think about Media Literacy and What I think it is and how it’s going to affect me.

Media Literacy is all around us.. We can not escape it.

Getting To Know Me...

Hello Bloggerzzz, My name is Taylor and this is my blog!!!! I'm a volleyball player at Reinhardt University. I am 19 years old and from Douglasville, Ga. I have grown up in two homes my main one being with my mother in Douglasville, GA with my stepfather, younger sister and also my grandmother. My second home was also with my father in Johnson City, TN with my stepmom, and my younger sister.

When I was younger I was constantly with my mom and her special e.d kids (who hold a special place in my heart), my mom’s parents, my mother’s competitive and sideline cheerleaders, Football and Basketball.  From being around those things when I was younger it brought a huge love of sports in me and also a love for special e.d children and adults.

I’m extremely close with my mother’s parents even though they lived in Alaska from the time I was a baby till I was about 7 years old. When I was a baby my grandparents (Mama and Poppy) would always come and get me and take me up to Alaska with her for two weeks at a time. As I got older my mother and I would visit numerous times a year and send them homemade videos mom would take of us at home.  When we go up to Alaska would ride four wheelers everywhere stay outside all day, and fish till the sun went down. Another fond memory I have is Poppy growing wild strawberries which were delicious.

When I was 3 years old my mother met my step father and a random high school football game and you could say it was love at first site. They dated for about two years (yes I was a little skeptical of him at first, but he got better as he came around) they got married when I was 5 years old in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. After they got married, we moved to Douglasville, GA which is where I spent the reast of my life till now.

In Douglasville, GA I attended Sweetwater Elementary School from k-2, then I went to Chapel Hill Elementary School from 3-5, Chapel Hill Middle School from 6-8, and then finally Chapel Hill High School 9-12, In these schools where some of the best memories of my life that I will never ever forget.

Now I am going to school at Reinhardt University where I play volleyball and have met all kinds of new friends who are all going to last me a lifetime.
